In contrast, Hermione, who is secretly taking every class Hogwarts offers during her third year with the help of a Time Turner, is self-assured and stress-free in the films, but in the books, the stress nearly breaks her. In the movie, Hermione gets the line, and it's nothing more than a throwaway. To make matters worse, at the climax of the book, when the trio faces off with accused murderer Sirius Black (played in the films by Gary Oldman), Ron stands on a broken leg to defend his friend, creating a touching moment. During one of Snape's classes, when the cruel professor calls Hermione an "insufferable know it all," Ron sticks up for her in the books and gets a detention for his trouble.
#Differences between harry potter book 1 and movie movie#
The way Harry, Ron, and Hermione all meet is basically the same, except the dialogue is a little different.Īlso, one of the biggest things that are different is the the book is called Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and the movie is called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.Throughout the film, Ron, who can be sarcastic and snippy but has a sweet side, is kind of a jerk, especially in the way he treats Hermione. You use four balls, the quaffle, which the chasers throw into hoops to score points, two bludgers, for the beaters to whack at people with bats, and a snitch for the seeker to catch and the game is over. First of all, quidditch is a sport with seven players, a keeper, seeker, two beaters, and three chasers, played on broomsticks in the air. Yes, the movies left a lot of quidditch matches left out of the story, but shooting the scenes were painful and very time consuming.

They both tell the same story, just the movie cut some of the characters and little things that I didn’t mention out. The book and the movie also have a lot of similarities too. Hermione’s time to shine is when she helps Harry out with Snape’s potions task, in order to get to the Sorcerer’s Stone. Snape made a logic puzzle/riddle that incorporates seven potions, three of which are poison, two of which are nettle wine, one of which returns the drinker to the previous room, and the last of which advances the drinker to the next and final room. Both Ron and Harry have a particular challenge that highlight their characteristics (the chess game and the Mirror of Erised, respectively), but in removing this third challenge from the movie, we don’t get to see how Hermione’s bravery and intelligence come together.

His song is supposed to explain each of the four houses and their founders.Īt the end of the first book, the golden trio attempt to make it through three obstacles intended to protect the Sorcerer’s Stone. The Sorting Hat is supposed to sort first years in alphabetical order with their last name, and sing a song each year. In the movie, they made Hermione Granger get sorted first, like her name is in the middle of the alphabet, not even in the beginning or end, also they didn’t have the Sorting Hat sing at all. He wasn’t cut out of the movie, but almost everything that he did was. In the book, there is a character called The Sorting Hat. Yes, mostly everyone wants movie adaptations to be exactly like the book, but we would like the actor playing the lead to be comfortable with his costume and role. He said in an interview that he tried using green eye contacts but they weren’t comfortable and really hurt his eyes. The actor who played Harry Potter is Daniel Radcliffe.

This may seem like a minor part of the book, but really in the future it is a huge part for reasons I cannot say because some people, hint hint, are still reading the book.

Rowling wrote that Harry Potter’s eyes were emerald green. The book obviously has all of these things. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone movie was very accurate to the book, but just didn’t have important details like how Harry Potter’s eyes are green, the Sorting Hat didn’t sort right and sing a song, and how at the end of the book, there was no potions task in general. MovieĪlthough the first movie in the Harry Potter franchise is very accurate, the book still has much more detail about everything. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: Book vs.
